About me…
Hey, I’m Stefan,
Photographer, videographer and creative director from Sydney. I run my production house, Stefan White Productions, alongside a small team of talented creatives.
I’ve been shooting commercial video for almost a decade and photography for five + years, but I first picked up a camera back in 2010. It started as a hobby, became a bit of an obsession and eventually turned into my career.
At the centre of it all, I love people, storytelling and understanding what makes people tick. Photography and filmmaking are the tools I use to tell those stories.
Across my creative career, I’ve deliberately pushed myself to work across different styles, formats and industries. I’ve shot brand and corporate content, events and conferences, social campaigns, workplace culture, weddings, documentary, film and reality TV.
That range has helped me figure out where I do my best work and that experience has lead me to operating as a creative producer, storyteller and strategic partner.
My first real experience with production came completely out of nowhere.
In 2013, I was given the opportunity to take part in a reality TV show that involved driving tuk-tuks across Thailand, Cambodia and Laos with 15 other travellers and a production crew documenting the whole thing.
It was one of those experiences that’s still pretty hard to explain. The show went on to screen in more than 50 countries, including on MTV and SBS, but the biggest thing I took from it had nothing to do with being on camera.
I became fascinated by the people behind it.
I ended up getting involved with the team during post-production and it became the catalyst for me getting into the industry. Looking back, it feels like one of those strange sliding door moments that completely changed the direction of my life.
Since then, I’ve had opportunities to work as a creative producer and production coordinator, as well as stepping into directing and creative direction across film, television and commercial projects in Australia, Europe and Asia.
In 2024, I travelled to Berlin to shoot my first independent documentary, exploring the lives of creatives who had moved to the city, what they were running from, what they found there and the meaning they found through their creative work in such a chaotic and culturally rich place. It’s currently in post-production, with release planned for late 2026.
Before the camera
Before going full-time creatively, I spent almost a decade working in the social sector.
I worked across frontline and management roles in disability, mental health and youth homelessness, from starting out as a disability support worker to eventually managing youth refuges and teams of youth workers.
Later, during the rollout of the NDIS in Sydney, I worked in support coordination and chose to work predominantly with people from non-English-speaking backgrounds, often working alongside families and interpreters to navigate incredibly complex situations.
That work was deeply meaningful to me, and I still use what it taught me every day.
It gave me a deep understanding of human behaviour and taught me how to connect with people, ask the right questions and help people feel genuinely heard, understood and valued.
I take a lot of the principles I learned through my studies and that decade of work, psychology, active listening, non-violent communication and human empathy, directly into the way I produce, interview and work with clients today.
Approach with clients
That experience has shaped the way I approach my creative work now. I’m deeply collaborative and I don’t believe in forcing every project into a particular creative style just because it’s mine.
Every project starts with understanding you, your business, your audience, what you’re trying to achieve and what the content actually needs to do.
Sometimes that means taking a clear brief and bringing it to life. Sometimes it means asking a lot of questions, challenging ideas and working together to figure out what we should actually be making in the first place.
I pride myself on being easy to work with, genuine, curious and having no ego on set. I value clear communication and try to take the stiffness out of what can sometimes feel like a pretty lifeless process.
I get my energy from meeting people, understanding what they’re trying to build and helping them turn an idea or vision into reality.
A lot of clients become repeat clients, and many have become friends. I do this because I genuinely love helping people and I love the process of creating something together.
If you have a project you’re thinking about, I’d love to hear about it. There’s never any pressure to have everything figured out before getting in touch. Whether you have a clear brief or just the beginnings of an idea, I’m always happy to have a chat, get to know you and work out what we could create together.
